Geography

Askary has the largest and most diverse moutain ranges in Amaris. The northernmost region or the country is covered in dense forests and wide rivers. Many villages were created there because of the easy to inhabit terrain. The central and southern parts are very mountainous and temperate with quite a bit of grassland area, which is mostly used for grazing livestock and crops. Many caves and valleys were turned into villages with plenty of taverns and tourist spots. The west is much warmer and more diverse, it has some of the prettiest beaches and cliffsides. This region is full of rainforests and waterfalls, you can even find semiarid land there.

Culture

Askarians are kind to outsiders and often invite them to cook together during meals. Their villages are rather small outside the few main cities. They like to spend time with their relatives by bonfires telling stories heard from travelers in local taverns. Besides caring for livestock and fields, they enjoy sculpting in wood or stone. Askarians have also helped with creating most accurate maps since many of them are able to fly high above the ground and scan the surrounding area.

Askarian cooking uses lots of grains, meat and vegetables. Some of the most beloved dishes are porridge with varied toppings and meat pies. Plenty of cheeses and other dairy products are being produced in Askary.

Since Askarian rainstorms often cause flooding, the houses are built on stone platforms and roofs are designed to protect them from the rain, usually sloped or curved with multiple layers. You can often find pastures or little gardens connected to the houses by a fence.

Local Attire

Askarians mostly wear warm but flexible fabrics capable of giving them proper warmth when flying and living in their windy environments. They often avoid wearing decorative elements like jewelry so it doesn't get in the way or make too much noise in the wind, but other go-tos are soft scarves or gloves. They often also wear light armor, especially on the chest, head, and wrists, to protect them while flying. Askarians spend a lot of time carving their armor. In some societies, carving armor is a rite of passage for those with wings, and is an important part of their culture. Armor is often also handed down in families or given to close friends as a sign of deep friendship.
