Burugolia

the nation of wetlands and trade

Geography

Burugolia is widely known for its wetlands and tropical climate. The northern region is mostly covered in dense forests with diverse flora and numerous lakes. This area of Burugolia is famous for its trading ports, which attract merchants from all over Amaris. The south is dominated by temperate climates but turns subtropical in the east. The subtropical region also has the second longest mountain range in Amaris. Most of the southern land is used for farming and has open stretches of fields dotted between roads, trees and hills. Central Burugolia is full of grasslands and semiarid shrubland and is the least populated region, although reptilians often like to set up camps and even build small communities in the area. Because of Burugolia's ideal, temperate climates and geography, many trade routes pass through the country.

Culture

Burugolians are often described as very hospitable and kind to outsiders. They form big communities of fishermen, farmers and blacksmiths. These communities function like a big family, they share crops and tools and generally offer help even without any reward. Froadlets are commonly raised by multiple froads and taught useful skills from masters.

Because a big chunk of the country is used for farming, they take a lot of pride in their crops and often organize local fairs to sell and trade their harvested goods. Many Burugolians also find themselves enjoying activities like wood carving and sculpting, which are often sold to tourists and travelling merchants or gifted to friends and loved ones.

Burugolian cuisine is known for it's earthy stews and roasted meats. Fish, root vegetables and mushrooms are used in many traditional dishes. Even though Burugolians grow many grains, they rarely use them in their cooking and prefer to trade it for exotic ingredients from other nations.

Their homes are rarely built with rocks since the structures would be too heavy for muddy Burugolian ground, so instead they use wood and clay. Many homes in wetland areas are built on water which makes fishing even easier! Froads are often seen setting up nets from their docks. They like to decorate their homes with sculptures related to their occupation.

Local Attire

Many Burugolians like to dress in breathable, thin fabrics, suitable for working in farms or fishing. They usually also sport one of the most simple attires out of the nation, driven mostly by function rather than style. Despite this, Burugolians like to dress up their outfits with bandanas, scarves, or wrappings. Jewelry is uncommon on most Burugolians, as it can sometimes get in the way of their every day life.

Most textiles in the area have dimmer, muted colors, such as greys, greens and browns, as well as lighter colors. Large hats also help with keeping sun out of eyes when working and are relatively common.
